puff the majic exhaust pipe

So, for all you physics majors out there or , anyone with a firm grasp on smoke & water vapor...
hmm, wonder how many of my ex-schoolmates will chime in..now that I read that last sentence..

Anyway, so I'm wondering, why does a car smoke MORE when first started on a COLD morning, then gradually lessen as it warms up?
I mean, according to what I thought were principles of science & physics & general good intent, since the car is freezing when started, wouldn't it first show LESS smoke, then INCREASE as warmed?

Please help: the balance of the entire universe depends on your accurate & insightfull answer...

it would steam more as the car temperature increased, because the difference in temperature would be greater.
but smoke is different. probably some sort of oil or fuel residue that is burning off that settled in the engine, or the pipe, over night. so it burns off and cleans out while running.
